Barkley Sound Fishing
What You Can Expect
Chinook (Kings) are present in Barkley Sound year round. Best fishing is typically when the Stamp/Somas River run returns in early August through to early September. We also can have great fishing when the Columbia River fish migrate through our area in June to early August.
Along with them we will see Coho (Silvers) move through Barkley Sound in mid August to early September on their way to Port Alberni.
We also have humps in Barkley Sound that do have both Halibut and Ling Cod. The best way to target hali’s is to anchor up and commit the time to bring the fish to you. While not as productive as going offshore for hali’s, Barkley Sound does offer opportunity to catch them if you put in the time.
These waters are protected due to many islands that break up ocean swells. If you are looking for a wild west coast fishing experience without big waves that can bring on sea sickness, Barkley Sound adventures are the best choice for you.
Wildlife
You can also expect to see wildlife such as bald eagles, hump back whales, sea lions and seals. Barkley Sound is also home to the Pacific Rim National Park, and the Broken Island Group. The Broken Islands offer unique protected waters, with many bays, reefs and scenic views. This is a world class wild park, well worth the visit.
